manual:initial-configuration

Initial configuration

Introduction

To access the management web-interface an IP should be configured first. HSMX provides three methods to access and modify the initial configuration:

  • Console
  • Connected to the LAN port with DHCP client
  • Connected to the WAN port with a static IP

Console

Connect a keyboard and screen to the HSMX appliance, verify the keyboard layout (by default Belgian AZERTY) and login with the default credentials (admin / admin). The shell allows you to do the basic network configuration in order to get the network connectivity up and running and to continue the configuration over the web interface. The default login is admin / admin. To configure the IP address type configuration<enter>; ip<enter> and follow the wizard to configure the IP address. To learn more about the console functionality, proceed to section console.

connected to the LAN port with DHCP

Connect your computer to the LAN port (the LAN port should be identified on the quick configuration guide). You should receive an IP address from the DHCP service on the HSMX gateway within the 192.168.80.0/24 range. You can now connect to the web administration management interface via http(s)://192.168.80.1 or login over SSH to get console access. Login with admin / admin and configure the HSMX IP address via Network / Network Configuration.

connected to the WAN port (static IP)

Connect your computer to the WAN port (the WAN port should be identified on the quick configuration guide). You need to configure your computer with a static IP (10.10.10.2 / 255.255.255.252). Connect to the web administration console via http(s)://10.10.10.1 or login over SSH to get console access. Login with admin / admin and configure the HSMX IP address via Network / Network Configuration.
